Marcel Luske

The poker player Marcel Luske was born in Amsterdam on March 23rd, 1953. In his younger days he had many jobs including working as a salesman and working for customs in Holland and also working for nightclubs.

He was first introduced to the world of poker by his younger brothers where he would play home games and improve on his skills. He eventually went on to play poker in places like clubs and homes and then went on to play in casino's, which then inspired him to open his own club, although he preferred to play the game rather than run the club.

This proved to be very profitable for Marcel Luske, he developed a knack for playing in poker tournaments. And it was in 1999 that he played in the Masters Classic in Amsterdam and won a limit stud/hold 'em tournament for around $51K, although at this time he still held down a job, as he went on to win more this encouraged him to quit his job.

In the 2001 tournament at the Prague Poker Open he won the $51K and then just a month later he went on to win two more tournaments and then just one month later had a win at the British Open held in London.

This also included being placed second in the Spring Tournament which was held in Paris and two final tables at the Vienna Spring Festival. The year 2002 was another good year for Mr. Marcel Luske, having wins at tournaments like Vienna Spring Festival and the British Open and also included a win at the European Poker Championships.

His success did not stop there as in 2003 he started to travel to the United States for a few tournaments. It was there that he won the PLO Tournament at the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic and managed to rake in $67,512. and then went on to play the World Poker Tour and came in 14th place managing to walk away with $26,664.

Marcel Luske was becoming a favorite at the live tournaments and had picked up a nickname 'Flying Dutchman' he was known for his impeccable taste in clothes, and you would always see this player dressed in a suit, and would always wear his sunglasses for the reason of helping with the glare from the casino lights and was quite happy singing along while playing his favorite game and went on to record his own songs about the popular game.

Marcel Luske is known as one of the best players of the game, and went on to tutor players like David Williams and Krill Gerasimov. And was awarded with the European Poker Award honours for being Player of the Year in both 2001 and 2004.
